Not every owner can hire “The Dog Whisperer” to train
their dog.When a dog’s behavior is
consistently bad, however, or if you are a first time dog owner, you may want
to hire a trainer to teach your pet the basics. To this end, here are 10 tips for choosing the right dog trainer.
The trainer should use techniques that do not harm the
dog in any way.
His methods should be above reproach and treat the dog
fairly and firmly, but not in an unkind manner.
Does the trainer get to know the dog?Another words, does he become familiar with
his personality and needs before he commences training.
Does the trainer keep you informed as to how the dog is
progressing?
Does the trainer require your presence during the actual
training?
How much does the trainer charge?
Does the trainer give you a time-frame as to when you
will see real results?
Does the trainer praise the dog?
Does the dog seem comfortable with the trainer?
Does the trainer provide you with information that you
can utilize after he has completed the training process?
There is another factor that you should also
consider.Ensure that the trainer is
certified and a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. You can access this online site for
additional information at: http://www.apdt.com.
While these are just 10 tips to for choosing the right
dog trainer, sometimes it could be the owner that cannot seem to get a handle
on the dog’s behavior. One of the things
that most good trainers will tell you is that when new dogs first enter a home,
they establish their territory.They
become the alpha male. Thus, they want
to rule the home leaving you at your wits end.
The key to the successful training of any dog or any breed
is to become the alpha male.Once the
dog understands you are the”pack leader,” he will conform to your commands no
matter what they are.Of course, this
will take time, but it does work and it can be done calmly, caringly, and
lovingly.
Finally, there is one more consideration in choosing the
right trainer.You can join group
training classes.The same questions
apply, but in this case you may want to ask if your dog could be given
individual instruction in addition to group training.
Most owners find this an enjoyable experience and the dog
does as well. When a dog is trained with
other dogs, he tends to be calmer since he is part of a pack which is natural
for him.The socialization of the dog is
an important one and can prevent unpleasant encounters with other dogs in the
future.
Most experts advise that having a personal dog trainer
and attending a group session can be the best of both worlds. The personal training can help you cope with
the dog, and the group training can help the dog learn how to live a more
structured life.

Nursing the sick dog - You must have a good relationship
Hi Everyone,
Here are some thoughts on nursing a sick dog:
The veterinary surgeon will give specific instructions in serious
cases. These are only guidelines.
General care
The environment must be quiet and peaceful and draught-free.
The dog must be able to get out of his bed to stretch his
legs if not too ill and relieve himself. Assist him if needed.
Fresh water must always be within reach. Glucose-based
drinks are available and is excellent to balance out minor water deficiencies.
Keep both the dog and his environment clean.
His appetite may not be good. The veterinarian might
prescribe a special nutritional diet for the dog’s specific needs. Encourage
your dog to eat by hand-feeding him- only while he is sick. Once he has started
eating by himself, encourage him to eat on his own; always reassuring him.
Clear chicken soup is highly recommended by many intensive care specialists.
If his movement is hindered, he needs a warm environment
and/or heat pads. Warm fleecy bedding is ideal.
Wound care
Change the dressing as instructed by the veterinarian. If he
had put a dressing on, leave it on.
The bandage shouldn’t be too tight. Don’t restrict blood
flow.
The paw must always be bandaged with the limb.
Modern moist dressings remove dead tissue and helps healing.
Exercise
As they feel better, animals may want to exercise. Restrict
exercise until healing is satisfactory. The veterinarian will provide
instructions about the amount and type of exercise appropriate for your dog’s
recovery.

ROUTINE HEALTH CARE: AN IMPORTANT ASPECT IF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TRAINING SUCCESS.
Hi Everyone,
Here are a few basics about dog health. If you are going to have any success with training your dog, you have to ensure that your dog is in top health. A healthy and happy dog is eager to work and learn.
ROUTINE HEALTH CARE
EXERCISE
If a dog is bored he can become destructive. Exercise
prevents that.
As the pup grows or before any major increase in
performance, the level of exercise should gradually be increased.
Over-exercising is very harmful. It can damage bone and
cartilage in the limbs- especially in the larger breeds; also true of the too
young.
Over-exercising can lead to long-term lameness and reduce
the dog’s capacity to exercise at all.
FEEDING
A nutritional balanced diet in the different stages of a
dog’s life is essential. The amount of food intake depends on the size and age
of the dog.
Neutered dogs’ amount of food should be cut back because
they need less than an entire dog.
During pregnancy the dam requires more food and special attention
should be given to her diet during lactation. It should provide her with all
the essential nutrients for herself and the puppies.
Whether you feed your dog on homemade or commercial food,
ensure that it provides the correct proportion of nutrients for your dog’s
particular needs.
Fresh water is essential and should always be within reach.
If a moist food is being replaced by a dry food, water intake will be increased
and the amount should be increased accordingly. The same applies when exercising.

What do I feed Puppy
Hi Everyone,
Some Ideas on feeding puppy and a few short dog training tips, enjoy!
What you need to know about feeding your Puppy
You can be sure that puppy will run for lunch - every time!Puppy needs to be fed regularly if he is to
grow big and strong.Learning to feed
your puppy is an important part of his care.Puppy doesn’t care what you feed him, but you should.Puppies are not adult dogs. They do not need the same food that you would
feed to an adult dog. I think this is where many loving puppy owners make a
mistake without realizing it and with the best of intentions.
Go to a store that is used to dealing with pet food like Petco.Ask one of the salespeople about puppy
food.Don’t immediately go for the least
expensive bag in order to save money. In
this case, cheap is not necessarily the best.Puppy is in his formative years and needs the right food.
The type of food is as important as the brand. The can of beef flavored pieces in smothered
gravy sounds appetizing, but it is not for puppy.Puppies need to eat kibble.Kibble is the dry nuggets of dog food.
When choosing kibble, make sure that it is the puppy formula.Large dog kibble nuggets will be too large
for puppy to eat without difficulty. He
may even choke on it.The pieces should
be easy to eat and swallow.
Puppies are normally fed three times a day at first.Use the serving size suggestion on the bag of
dog food to determine how much food to give to puppy.Let him eat for a specified amount of time
and then remove the food bowl. You don’t
want puppy to wander back to the bowl later. This encourages overeating.
As puppy grows, he will eat less often. When he goes down to two meals a day, cut out the middle of the day
meal.Cutting out the evening meal has
puppy going too long between feedings. This is can also be a cause of overeating.
Whatever you do, don’t feed your puppy from the table. He may be another member of the family but he
is not a human being.Table food can
wreak havoc with puppy’s digestive system. If he is given the wrong food, it can make him very ill.Eating at the table works in the cartoons,
but not in real life.
Puppy food contains all of the nutrients that a growing puppy
needs.Resist the urge to give puppy
extra supplements that may be available in the store.Unless prescribed by a veterinarian, these
supplements can cause more harm than good.
It is very important that puppy gets the right food for his age. Make
sure that you do your homework properly and know exactly what food to feed
puppy at every stage of his growth. Taking care to feed puppy correctly will
bear fruits in the form of a healthy dog for years to come. You simply cannot
afford to make a mistake here!
Are you looking for help with dog training?
Here are a few things to keep in mind when training your dog
You must keep these basics in mind when you are training
your dog:
You have to realize that you must never blame the dog. It is
in the nature of a dog to do what ever it takes to get the attention he craves
and needs.
Just like humans every dog has a unique personality; you
must recognize this personality and work within it if you want to have any
success with your dog training.
It is essential that you accept your dog's personality and
modify it in training. You cannot completely change your dog's personality. He
is unique and you simply have to accept it.
Another important thing you have to understand is the role
your dog plays in the training process.
It is also very important that you must be willing to learn
from your dog.
These points only touch on the most essential points
to keep in mind when you are training your dog. For a comprehensive guide to
training your dog there is a very good e-book calledSitStayFetch.
Go there now and have a look, I'm convinced you will like it.

How do I know my dog is ill?
How do I know my dog is ill or not?
Hi Everyone,
Please have a look at the following but, please remember it is not meant to replace a visit to the vet!
I think all of us are sometimes unsure whether our dog is
ill or not. Here are a few tips on how you can see whether your dog is ill.
This is not meant to replace visits to the vet. If you are unsure at all,
please take your dog to the vet. I have a philosophy of rather taking a pet to
the vet 10 times unnecessarily rather than waiting too long once. So please
regard these as a mere indication of things to be on the lookout for.
Signs of ill health
Has an abnormal thirst or drinking less than usual, if not
simply due to heat.
Breathing is abnormal
Temperature not normal
Wouldn’t eat
Wouldn’t move
He doesn’t want to be touched
He passes more or less urine than usual or strain to pass
urine
There is cloudiness in or around the eye
There is a discharge from the eye and/or nose
Mucus membranes in the mouth or around the eye are pale or
red. It should be pink
His breath smell
Urgent cases that
needs immediate attention.
Abdomen is swollen.
Blood is present in stool.
Vomiting is acute.
Fits, collapse, unconsciousness
Acute swelling in facial/neck area
Bleeding that will not stop.
Unwilling to put weight on a limb
Eyeball(s) swollen
Severe back pain
Gagging and choking
Snake bite
Ingestion of poison or any strange medicine
Cases needing
check-up
Immobility /stiffness
Loss of appetite
Weight loss, even when eating
Coughing or gagging
Presence of object in a small wound; a splinter of glass or
wood can penetrate the flesh
Bad odors could be caused by dermatitis, diarrhea, ear
infection, teeth, or skin.
Abnormal increased thirst. If an unspayed bitch is
increasingly thirsty, and it is not excessively hot, check when she was last in
season. If she is developing a pyometra, she needs veterinary attention without
delay as this conditioning is life-threatening.

Dog Training: Prevent boredom In Dogs
Hi Everyone,
Here are a few thought on preventing boredom in dogs:
Dog Positive Power
Training - Boredom In Dogs - How To Prevent It
I think it is important to understand that preventing
boredom in dogs is part and parcel of dog positive power training or positive
reinforcement training. With a top e-book, such as SitStayFetch, you will know exactly
how to train your dog. Dogs are very social animals and if you do not give your
dog enough attention, you’ll have a bored dog on your hands that is going to
give you all kinds of problems. I know we all mean well with our dogs, but,
sometimes we are very busy and do not give our dogs enough attention. Most of
us also have to work during the day and we have no other option as to leave our
dog alone at home during the day. Making sure there is variety is the best way
to prevent your dog from misbehaving. If your dog has a variety of toys to keep
him busy it will distract him and prevent all kinds of undesirable behavior.
Getting a good book on dog training will help you knowing what your dog needs.
Signs of boredom
in dogs:
* Continuous Barking
* Digging
* Excessive chewing (If the chewing is not related to a
teeth problem)
* Destructive biting
* Aggression (If other reasons have been ruled out)
* Jumping up against the fence
1. Dog Toys:
Fortunately there are many ways to provide variety to
keep our dogs occupied. A visit to the local pet store will provide you with as
many toys for your dog as you can possibly need. It is also a good idea to
provide other, safe, toys. Puppies love play duck, play rats or basically any
“baby” toy. One thing you have to do though is to make very sure these are
safe. There must not be pieces that can come of and choke your dog! Getting
yourself a very good dog training book will help you with safe choices. There
cannot be any hope of dog positive power training if your dog is bored. Get
help! Get SitStayFetch.
Provide these toys in your dog’s shelter or his crate.
This has the added value of making the shelter or crate a safe and happy place
for your dog. Do not use the crate as a “baby sitter” though, puppy or your dog
must be free to climb in and our as he pleases and it should only be closed for
traveling purposes. With a good book on dog training you’ll get advice on how to
crate train puppy.
2. Make sure your
dog gets enough exercise:
Another aspect that is very important is to make sure
your dog gets enough exercise. Make time to walk him every day. Make these fun
times and play with him. If you have enough space, throw things for him to
fetch and praise him when he brings it back. Do not forget to hug your dog or
scratch his back as physical contact is very important. The amount of exercise
your dog needs depends on the breed. This is something you have to make sure of
before you decide on the breed of dog you are going to get. A good book on dog
training will have this information as well.
I really strongly recommend that you get a good book on
dog training, such as SitStayFetch, to help you with all the info you need.
Remember that keeping your dog occupied is a part of training as well. If your
dog is properly trained and gets enough entertainment and attention you will
have a loving pet and a well behaved dog.
