 Making The Preparations For Puppy

The day you bring puppy home is a very big and exciting day. All the members of the family are probably very excited and cannot wait for the moment when puppy actually arrives. But before puppy arrives, there are a few things you need to do to make very sure you are completely prepared for the arrival of puppy.

You must not get alarmed about the stuff you need to buy for puppy. Most of the things puppy needs are once of. Try and find a pet store that has a sale as this can really save you a lot of money. Clipping coupons from the Sunday newspaper provide cost-cutting savings for the new pet owner as well.

What does puppy need?

Puppy needs a balanced diet. Do not be taken in by commercials with all its claims. Do your homework, ask your vet, and make sure you buy a well balanced puppy formula for puppy to eat. Puppy is still growing and needs the very best food available. Remember, the most expensive and luxury puppy food is not necessarily the best.

1. Bowls for puppy:

You are going to need bowls for feeding puppy. It is far more important the bowls are durable than that they are fancy. Puppy is not fully trained yet and there is going to be a lot of wear and tear on these bowls. One set of bowls for food and water is sufficient. You have to make very sure, though, that they are kept clean at all times. You cannot fill puppy’s bowl with water and just leave it there for the whole day, wash the bowl regularly and supply fresh water a few times a day. Place puppy’s bowls in the area where puppy will receive his meals to get puppy used to being fed in the same area all the time. This may sound silly, but believe me, it is very important to prevent future problems. You can read more about it in Secrets to Dog Training .

2. Bedding For Puppy:

Puppy will also need somewhere to sleep.  It may be cute the first few weeks to have puppy in the bed with you, but that will get real old real quick.  Puppy can toss and turn as he likes in his own bed.  Puppy may go through several beds before it’s all said and done so spending a lot on the first one is not advised.

3. A crate for puppy:

Puppy needs to get used to his crate as soon as possible. For excellent advice on crate training puppy, you may want to have a look at SitStayFetch. The crate is the way puppy is going to travel. Keeping puppy loose in the car is far too dangerous for you or puppy; he needs to be safe when traveling. Remember that the crate needs to allow for puppy growing. On the other hand it must also not be so large as to scare puppy. Puppy needs to look at the crate as his second home. For Excellent advice and tips on crate training puppy, I strongly recommend Secrets to Dog Training

4. A leash for puppy:

Whenever puppy ventures outdoors, he will need to wear a leash.  Leashes come in all colors, shapes, and sizes.  Puppy’s leash should allow room for growth.  It just needs to keep puppy from getting away, not necessarily make a fashion statement.  Besides puppy will probably chew on his leash the first few times you put it on him anyway, so spending a fortune on one, is not always a good choice.

5. Chewing toys for puppy:

All puppies have a habit of chewing. For this reason puppy needs to have toys that he can chew on. To see how you can train puppy to chew on his toys rather than on your possessions I strongly recommend Secrets to Dog Training . Giving puppy bones to chew on is not a good idea, pieces of bone can chip off and cause puppy to choke. Chew toys like bouncing balls could pose a choking hazard as well if they are smaller than puppy’s jaws.  So, be conscious about puppies play toys to make them fun, but more importantly, safe for puppy

6. Lots of love:

Puppies need lots of love and lots of tender care. Remember puppy is only a ”baby“ and has to learn everything from you. Without lots of love and care there is no way you‘ll be successful in training puppy. Get yourself an e-book such as Secrets to Dog Training and get all the info you need on training puppy.

Please be not alarmed by this long list. Most of it is plain common sense and you’ll probably do most of it right automatically. For all the extra help you need, you can fall back on Secrets to Dog Training .
