Points to consider when choosing a name for your dog.
- Make sure the name you choose for your dog is easy to pronounce. This is more important than you may think. Remember your dog has to respond to the name. If the name is not pronounced the same every time your dog will get very confused and that may lead to very serious problems.
- It also goes without saying that you have to stick to one name. If everyone in the family has a different name for the dog the poor dog will not know to which name to respond, especially in a time of crises.
- Do not use a name that is going to be used in commands. Names like ”sit“ or ”fetch“ is totally inappropriate (It goes Without saying)
- Make sure your dog’s name is only one or two syllabus as it is much easier for your dog to learn. Make things easy and clear for your dog, especially his name
- Make sure the name does not have any negative connotations as it may cause you saying it in a negative way. Also make sure the name is not offensive in any way. Calling a dog by a rude name may be humorous in the beginning but in the long run it will become an embarrassment to you and your family to keep calling your dog by this name.
- It is very important not to confuse your dog by changing his name. A loving owner always considers ways to make things easy and clear for his dog.
As you can see even naming your dog has to be considered carefully. So often when adopting a puppy you look at the cute little face and name him something cute and when he is fully grown the name turns out to be completely inappropriate. Please take the time to consider his name.
